Plover

A cooperative AI text adventure played over Nostr direct message.

Open source — gitlab.com/bonsai_software/plover

Plover is an AI game master running a shared fantasy adventure over Nostr. Send a DM — go north, ask the innkeeper about work, attack the goblin — and the game master responds with narration, consequences, and a world that remembers what you did. Multiple players can share the same quest, hear each other speak, and shape the story together.

Open protocol, your keys, your conversation. Use any Nostr client to play.

How to Play

Plover plays over Nostr private direct message. No app to install if you have a browser; native clients are also supported.

New to Nostr? Nostr is an open protocol for censorship-resistant messaging. You can get started in a browser — no app required.

Step 1 — Get a Nostr client

Pick a client for your platform:

PlatformClientLink
Browser (any device)Nostrudelnostrudel.ninja
AndroidAmethystamethyst.social
iPhoneYakihonneApp Store
DesktopGossipGitHub

Step 2 — Create an account

Generate a new key pair in the client, or import an existing nsec. This is your identity — keep the secret key safe.

Step 3 — Set your DM inbox relay

Make sure your DM inbox relay is set so Plover's replies can reach you.

New to Nostr or unsure how? See the DM inbox relay setup walkthrough.

Step 4 — Send your invite code

Open a DM to the Plover npub:

npub1fmcf8ueenfwc97xclzg2x5c09h3368gkwdjdzftfkfg5a6g2lkvqedk4we

Send the two-word invite code a friend gave you (for example panic-cardstock). Plover replies with a welcome and you're in.

The DM must be a NIP-17 private DM (not a legacy NIP-04 DM). Nostrudel, Amethyst, and Yakihonne all use NIP-17 by default.

Don't have an invite code yet? Send a DM to ksedgwic (npub1s5rq2ztdh76shy578znvympa2mzz2vjushs9mc5mwkdupewke67qeuf7u3) and we'll get you set up.

What can I say?

Plover responds to plain English. A few examples to get you started:

TypeReply
helpShows the commands available right now.
look aroundThe game master describes the scene you're in.
plover how can I be useful in combat?Calls a "time-out" — the game master steps out of the scene to answer rules, ability, or tactics questions, then play resumes.

That's the pattern: type what you want to do or ask, and the game master replies.
